Ballet
We are proud to use the Children’s Dance Method Company's" Story Book Ballet "Syllabus a program designed to keep kids excited about coming to class. At Laurie Active, our mission is to strengthen and align young dancers without ever losing the "fun" factor.
Whether your child is just starting at age 4 or progressing toward advanced levels, our curriculum provides the rigorous training needed for exams and competitions. We bridge the gap between early childhood movement and the technical demands of pointe work, ensuring every step is taken with joy.
Modern Dance & Dynamic Ballet: The ADAPT Advantage
In our Modern Dance and Dynamic Ballet classes, we proudly follow the ADAPT Syllabus (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers). This world-class curriculum bridges the gap between classical foundation and Modern expression, exposing students to a diverse range of dynamic movements.
By building on a strong ballet base while embracing a more versatile, expressive style, we prepare our dancers for the stage and beyond. Students are eligible for Exams, Competitions, and Festivals, utilizing the technical excellence gained through this prestigious Canadian dance syllabus.
Acrobatic Dance (Acrobatic Arts Syllabus)
What is Acrobatic Dancing?
A fusion of dance and acrobatics, utilizing athletic tricks as a primary form of movement.
The Curriculum we use is the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus which is Internationally Recognized and originates from Canada it is known for its meticulous attention to safety and body mechanics.
The Syllabus Focuses on developing a balanced athlete through five pillars: Tumbling, Limbering, Balance, Flexibility, and Strength.
The Result: Dancers who possess the power of a gymnast and the grace of a ballerina.
Hip Hop
At Laurie Active, Hip Hop is more than just movement—it’s a skill-building journey. Laurie has curated a specialized syllabus based on 70 iconic Hip Hop moves, structured to evolve as your child’s abilities grow.
Unique to our method, our Hip Hop syllabus utilizes our Tap curriculum as a rhythmic guide. By using Tap as a foundation for understanding counts and complex rhythms, we provide a solid musical base that we build all Hip Hop movement upon. This ensures our dancers have an elite sense of timing from day one
As they progress, we focus on:
Body Popping: Level-appropriate techniques that build precision and muscle control.
Fast Footwork: Using B-Boy-inspired drills to sharpen coordination and agility.
Strength & Style: Developing the upper-body strength required for authentic B-Boy routines while encouraging every dancer to find their own unique "zone" and confidence
Tap Dancing
We use the (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) ADAPT Tap Syllabus, which focuses on rhythm, style, and musical theatre.
What does this mean for our students? It means we're more concerned with the entertainment aspect of tap dance. We focus on creating rhythms, developing characterization, and building performance value so that every routine is as engaging to watch as it is to listen to.
Cross Training
In classes with extended training times, our instructor Laurie integrates specialized equipment and fun, vestibular exercises on mats. These drills and activities are specifically designed to help children develop the fundamental dance techniques needed for rotations, speed, and strength.
These drills do more than just build rotations, speed, and core strength; they're also a fun and mentally engaging way to reinforce fundamental dance techniques.
